Aula Energy acquires 1GW solar portfolio from Lightsource bp, including up to 800MW of co-located BESS

Aula Energy expands national portfolio with the acquisition of 1GW of operational solar farms and a development pipeline of up to 800MW* of co-located BESS.

Aula Energy today announced it has acquired five operational solar farms from Lightsource bp, expanding its clean energy business across New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria. The acquisition of 1GW of operating assets includes West Wyalong Solar, Wunghnu Solar, Woolooga Solar, Wellington Solar and Wellington North Solar, with options to develop co-located battery energy storage systems (BESS) across the portfolio.

This strategic acquisition is complementary to Aula Energy’s wind projects currently under construction, as well as its wind and BESS projects in development. By securing these operating assets and development options, Aula Energy marks another major step in its growth and aspirational leadership in Australia’s clean energy transition. This follows recent milestones, with Aula Energy closing two major wind projects in two consecutive years, Carmody’s Hill Wind Farm in December 2025 and Boulder Creek Wind Farm in September 2024, with construction of Boulder Creek now well progressed.

Since its inception in 2023, Aula Energy has built strong momentum as it advances its strategy to accelerate Australia’s transition to renewable energy. The newly acquired solar farms will integrate into Aula Energy’s growing national asset base as it continues to progress new development opportunities.

“Today’s announcement marks another significant milestone in Aula Energy’s growth journey. With the acquisition of these operating assets, we continue to scale our business, deliberately building a portfolio of assets that will meet the long-term energy needs of Australian communities,” said Chad Hymas, CEO, Aula Energy.

“We are building a business supported by strategic partners who can grow with us. Our track record since 2023 reflects their confidence in our capabilities and our focus on delivery. This acquisition strengthens our ability to support Australia’s energy transition while creating long term value for our shareholders and communities.”

“For the solar farms acquired, day to day activities on site will continue as usual. We want customers, the local community, landholders and Traditional Owners to know that we value the strong foundations already in place. Our focus is on maintaining open communication and ensuring clear points of contact with the change of ownership.”

“We look forward to continuing the existing relationships across our solar farm communities and supporting the positive role these projects play in their regions.”
